Salim Naber, a Jordanian businessman, who is a partner in one of the leading transport companies in the Middle East, became interested in the date palm, and was particularly interested that on the other side of the Jordan Valley, numerous date palm plantations had been established and successfully commercialized. During his weekends, Salim would spend his time pruning trees and taking care of his private garden. Mr. Naber decided to plant a trial farm of numerous palm trees in order to see if the date palm had a viable commercial future in the Jordan Valley. Following his success in the first farm, Mr. Naber continued to plant new farms and continued to conduct experiments with the planting of different date varieties.
