Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200°C, gas mark 6. Toss together the apples, dates, sugar, cinnamon and mixed spice. Butter six ramekins and spoon in the fruit mixture.
- For the cobbler: Stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt. In a separate bowl stir together the butter and buttermilk then mix into the dry ingredients to make a sticky dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the fruit then bake for 25 minutes until the crust is golden and the fruit is tender. Serve warm with cream.
