Directions
- In a small mixing bowl, combine dates and baking soda.
- Stir in hot water, set aside.
- In large mixing bowl, beat butter, shortening and sugar until creamy.
- Add date mixture, and stir in flour, eggs, vanilla and ½ cup of chocolate pieces.
- Mix well, pour into greased 9-inch square pan.
- Sprinkle top of batter with remaining chocolate pieces.
- Bake in pre-heated 350-degree oven for about 40 minutes, then cool in pan for about 10 minutes. Cut into squares.
